Debunking Common Oil Myths to Better Understand Your Vehicle

There are a lot of myths surrounding motor oil. The professionals at Honolulu Volkswagen want our valued customers to be an informed vehicle owner and to understand how to debunk these myths.

One of the most common fallacies is that you need to get your oil changed every 3,000 miles. While this may be true for some older vehicles, other cars may require it less often. To be sure, you should always check your owner's manual for the information that is specific to your vehicle.

Some owners also believe that they do not need to change their oil filter with every oil change. This is not true. It is always recommended to change the filter along with the oil in order to prevent contaminants in the filter from mixing with the new oil. You also do not need to change your motor oil every time that it appears black.
